Extensive Course

The Canadian English Centre offers FOUR HOURS AND TWENTY MINUTES PER WEEK, being one hour in a regular class, two hours in our Friday activity class, and one hour and twenty minutes in our Language Laboratory & Study Centre where the students work on their material under supervision of a well-trained monitor.
At the Canadian English Centre you have FIVE MONTHS of actual classes per semester.

Our Extensive Course is given in eight semesters, covering a total period of three years and ten months from zero to graduation.

  REGULAR COURSE
  DURATION Eight semesters covering books Zero, One, Two and Three, plus the Phonetic Program.
  BOOK ZERO :: Basic structures of the English language.
Book Zero is given in the first semester covering all elementary structures of the English language, essential for the student to begin to understand spoken English and make his first steps into communication. This is the only part of the course in which the classes are conducted in Portuguese.

  BOOK ONE ::: Listening Comprehension Skills
From this point on our classes are in English

Book One is given in the second semester. It prepares the student to communicate in English. During Book One all classes are in English and the teacher will only speak English with the students in and OUT OF the classroom.
  BOOK TWO :: Communication Skills
You are not supposed to speak Portuguese anymore!
Book Two is given in the second semester. In this book Portuguese is no longer allowed, which means that all the communication between the student and the school must be in English, no matter the subject. After the first half of Book Two all students reach communication level, that is, they can understand and make themselves understood in English.
  BOOK THREE

:: Mini Lectures
This is the last book of the regular program. Book Three plus the Phonetic Program last two semesters.
Book Three students begin to give mini lectures based on Canadian and North American publications, such as articles and news stories from magazines like Time, Newsweek or National Geographic.
At this level all students have already reached good communication skills, being able to handle interviews in English and have no difficulty passing basic English tests like the Brazilian college admission test.

:: First Certificate
Those who reach the required score in the Test Of English as a Foreign Language, TOEFL [Sample], will receive their FIRST CERTIFICATE IN ENGLISH.

  PHONETIC
  IMPROVEMENT
:: Brushing off the Portuguese accent.
The Phonetic Improvement program is a course given in the USA and Canada to help foreigners who live there to speak English without their native accent, enabling them to be better understood.
